‘Lisière’ is the new single from Canadian-Haitian artist Laurie Torres. It’s a beautifully hypnotic track that sits in its own space on the genre spectrum. The sounds of ambient music and lo-fi are at its core, but her post-rock, jazz and even hip-hop influences can certainly be felt within her improvisational compositional style. The lilting piano melody ebbs and flows, with the subtle sounds of organ and flute tenderly providing textural support during the piece’s thicker moments. “I had an urge to use creativity as a sort of resting place, a place where things can unfold slowly and take time to reveal themselves,” she explains, on her creative process. “In other words, I felt the need to make something slower, more elusive.” Laurie Torres has announced her debut album, Après coup, which is due to drop on February 21st, 2025, via Tonal Union. -Dan Peeke
